IP Protection Grade Classification Standard For Waterproof Junction Box

IP stands for Ingress Protection. The IP Protection Rating system provides a way to classify products by how dust, water, and collision resistant electrical equipment and packaging are. This system was drafted by the International Electro Technical Commission (IEC), and is listed in THE BS EN 60529: Announced in the IP Code, this standard was adopted as a U.S. national standard in 2004.

IP protection grade is composed of two Numbers, the first digital said electrical dust, the level of the external things out (here referring to foreign object contains tools, man's fingers are not in contact with the electrical appliances in the electric parts, in order to avoid electric shock), the second number indicates electric moisture proof, waterproof into airtight degree, the greater the number said the higher degree of protection.

Dustproof level of the first digit following IP

The first number indicates the extent to which the device is resistant to fine dust, or the extent to which people are protected from harm in a sealed environment. Represents the level of protection against solid foreign matter, with the highest level being 6:

Class 1, can block objects larger than 50mm, semi-exposed state.

Level 2, prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12mm, prevent human fingers contact with internal parts.

Level 3: prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 2.5mm, prevent the intrusion of tools, wires or similar small external objects larger than 2.5mm and contact with internal parts.

Level 4, prevent the intrusion of solid objects greater than 1.0mm, prevent the intrusion of tools, wires or similar small foreign objects with diameters or thicknesses greater than 1.0mm and contact with internal parts.

Grade 5, with good dustproof effect, dust will not cause equipment damage or a large amount of accumulation.

Grade 6, completely dust-free, the connection port and other parts are completely sealed.

Second digit after IP: waterproof level

The second digit indicates how waterproof the device is. Represents the level of protection against flooding, with the highest level being 8:

Level 0, no special protection.

Level 1, water droplets protection. Vertical drops of water, such as condensation, do not cause damage.

Level 2: water droplets can still be prevented when the tilt is 15 degrees. Dripping does not cause damage when tilted from vertical to 15 degrees.

Level 3, prevent water from spraying. Protection from rain or damage caused by water sprayed in a direction with an Angle of less than 60 degrees from the vertical.

Level 4, prevent splashing water. To prevent damage caused by water intrusion from all directions.

Level 5, prevent spray water immersion. Prevent damage caused by water intrusion from the nozzle from all directions.

Level 6, protection against large waves. Can prevent the damage caused by the invasion of large waves.

Grade 7, prevent water immersion during flooding. Immersion in water for a certain time or water pressure in a certain standard below, can ensure that no damage caused by immersion.

Class 8, prevents water immersion in case of sinking. Prolonged sinking under specified water pressure ensures no damage due to immersion.
